Travel to Holland

Air
When you fly to Holland, you will very likely land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This is one of the largest and best airports in Europe. In addition to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Holland has various other airports, including Rotterdam Airport, Eindhoven Airport and Maastricht Aachen Airport.

At the airport exits taxis will be waiting, while the bus station is just opposite the arrivals building. The train station at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is situated underneath
the airport, making it very easy and convenient to take a train to your
destination. Alternatively, you may wish to rent a car.

Travel in Holland

Public Transport
Public transportation in Holland is reliable, convenient and of a high standard. Buses, trams, subways and trains depart several times per hour in all directions. Depending on your destination, you may have to change, but the public transportation system will get you anywhere. It is a comfortable, fast and reasonably priced way to travel.

Train
Train tickets are available from ticket machines which accept both cash and debit and credit cards.

Bus, Tram & Subway
Trips by bus, tram or subway must be paid for by a so-called ‘strippen’ card. It is best to buy one before you get on the bus or tram, as this is cheaper. Travelling by subway is only possible if you’ve bought a ‘strippen’ card in advance.

The ‘strippen’ cards are available from the kiosks at the train stations, from book stores, post offices and supermarkets. The chauffeur validates the required number of ‘strips’ on the card.

In a number of cities in Holland you can also travel on the public transport system with an ‘OV’ (Public Transportation) chip card. If you are in Holland for a limited period of time, you can buy a disposable OV chip card from the ticket machines at the train stations.

Rental Car
All airports have one or several car rental companies. This is an excellent way to travel to your final destination. You may even wish to keep the rental car for a longer period to explore the country at your leisure.

Taxi
At most airports and train stations taxis are waiting outside the arrivals hall. Taxis have blue license plates with black letters and numbers, and a ‘Taxi’ sign on the roof. The taxi will take you anywhere you like against cash payment.
