Hella Jongerius is a renowned Dutch designer who has worked on many national and international projects, designing impressive items but also redecorating interiors with specially designed products. Jongerius has become known for the special way she fuses industry and craft, high and low tech, combining tradition with the contemporary. For this reason she was included in the team to redesign the UN North Delegates’ Lounge in New York, that was festively opened by Dutch Queen Maxima last Wednesday, 25 September, 2013.

Three reasons why Arts Holland recommends Hella Jongerius:

#1: Together with a team of well-known Dutch designers including architect Rem Koolhaas, and graphic designer Irma Boon, Hella redesigned the UN North Delegates' Lounge in New York, at the request of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They were given the task to redesign the lounge and bring it into a new era. The renovation and redesign of the lounge is a gift from Holland to the UN.

Hella designed two new pieces of furniture for the lounge: the Sphere Table and the UN Lounge Chair, both produced by Vitra. On top of that this Dutch designer created the Knots & Beads Curtain, with hand-knotted yarn and 30,000 porcelain beads made from Dutch clay by Royal Tichelaar Makkum for the East Facade.

# 2: Due to Hella Jongerius' diverse selection of work, she has gained worldwide recognition in the design world. After graduating from the Design Academy and winning the Rotterdam design prize in 2003 for her carpet 'Repeat', Hella Jongerius is a name known to many across the world.

At the moment she is working with various large companies, such as KLM for which she designed the new business class interior, Vitra and Maharam. Hella's company Jongeriuslab has recently moved to Berlin, to be inspired by the city and it's creativeness.

#3: Besides all the individual work, Hella has also worked together with Droog, a conceptual Dutch design studio founded twenty years ago to position Dutch design  internationally. Droog was the first to make a statement on design, with its no-nonsense, down to earth design mentality, developping a range of furniture, accessories and lighting products. Hella's work for Droog brought a lovely range of flower vases to life, as well as crockery and accessories.
