Strand West is an inspirational modern design store situated in a historic city castle in the city centre of Utrecht. Strand West is not, as the name might suggest in Dutch (West Beach), a beach on the west coast of Holland. However, it does make for a wonderful place to cool off a bit during the summer and look at all the wonderful pieces of design they have in store.

Three reasons why ArtsHolland thinks this is hot hot hot:

#1: Strand West serves as a platform for national and international, well-known and unknown talented designers, such as Marcel Wanders (MOOOI), Hella Jongerius, Martin Visser, Ineke Hans and Studio Job. The four floors are filled with the most fascinating pieces of furniture, trendy lighting solutions and cosy interior accessories, as well as bags, scarves, jewellery, wrapping paper, washi tape and post cards.

#2: Besides providing a unique view of the current trends in Dutch design, Strand West is located in a national heritage site on Oudegracht, namely in a former castle. The Drakenburg Castle dates back to the 11th century and allows for a great contrast between the past, the present and the future.

#3: Strand West is also home to architecture and interior design firm Strand NL. This young and dynamic firm gives professional advice on building, rebuilding and the interior, including layout, lighting, materials and colour to individuals and businesses.

Make sure to pay Strand West a visit when in Utrecht, to check out what’s in store and see what they can do for you and your home.
